bashful:  Shy and tending to want to not be noticed or pointed out.
example:  The bashful students tend to stay in the back of the classroom so they won’t be noticed or called on.

dread:  fear of something that has not yet happened.
example: I dread walking out to the end of the diving board because I'm afraid I’ll do a belly flop.

significance: something of importance.
example: The significance of learning to read can’t be underestimated because a great deal of all we learn is from something we read.

insecure: lacking self-confidence or not feeling good about your strengths and talents.
example: On the first day of junior high, I felt insecure because all the older students seemed so much more mature.

confidence: believing in yourself and your abilities.
example:  I had a great deal of confidence that I would do well on the test, because I had studied so hard.

whisked:  to move something quickly to another place.
example:  I whisked my candy bar under my pillow when my Dad came into my room to say goodnight.
