infers: to come to a conclusion based on observation or experiences.

example: When our teacher tells us that we will be unhappy if we don't do our homework, she is inferring that we will either get a poor mark or have to miss recess.

retention: the ability to remember or keep something.

example: Our teacher told us to listen carefully to her lecture because the more we pay attention the more we will be our retention.


inattentive: not concentrating on something.

example:  I was annoyed at myself for being inattentive when ice cream was being scooped because after I started eating it I noticed that I had a much smaller scoop than the rest.
