surmise: to guess at something, or attempt to figure out
example: I read a book at the library that suggests that scientists don’t know the exact age of the earth, but surmise it to be 4.5 billions years old.
reckon: to figure something out, to imagine an answer.
example: Scientists reckon the earth's age at 4.5 billion years old.
react: When you respond or act because of something said or done.
example: My dog reacts by barking and running around the house every 4th of July when the fireworks start.
startled: surprised, not prepared for something that is happening, taken aback.
example: I was startled when opening my front door, all my friends shouted, “Surprise, Happy Birthday!”
